From White Plains

When filmmaker Dennis Sullivan uses his Oscar acceptance speech to call out the high school bully whose actions he believes led to his best friend’s suicide, he ignites a media firestorm that quickly spirals out of control, threatening to forever change the lives of both men and those closest to them. Winner of the 2013 GLAAD Media Award, Broken Nose Theatre’s acclaimed Midwest Premiere tackles bullying, social media, revenge, and the consequences of taking it all too far.

FROM WHITE PLAINS is, at its core, a sharp, empathetic drama about bullying, vengeance, and the consequences that come with taking it all too far. Written by Michael Perlman – in collaboration with Aaron Rossini, Craig Wesley Divino, Karl Gregory, and Jimmy King, the actors in the original production – the play’s World Premiere was produced in New York in 2012, where it played an extended initial run, inspired a remount earlier this year, and went on the receive the GLAAD Award for Best New Off-Off Broadway Play.

Directed by company member Spenser Davis, FROM WHITE PLAINS ran in the Greenhouse Theater Center’s Downstage Studio from January 24th to February 23rd, 2014.

Named “One of the Smart Plays of 2014”

Windy City Times

“Highly Recommended! Michael Perlman has written a very smart play, about very smart people, asking very smart questions … Director Spenser Davis never allows the characters to slip into easy stereotypes, but keeps the emotions always rooted in a fundamental rationality”

Mary Shen BarnidgeWindy City Times

“It was a show about things that are wrong in life, like bullying, but it wasn’t just sad and depressing, it was sometimes funny and you cared for all the characters … I think that people should definitely go see this show. It is a great show because it made me think differently about a girl who was sort of bullying me and it made me feel sad for people who are being bullied much worse than my problem.”

Ada Grey (age 9)

“3 Stars! An earnest but often-taut production… fluid staging and [a] solid cast create an engaging morality play”

Kerry ReidChicago Tribune

“Recommended! An emotionally compelling, ethically confounding ride … Davis coaxes grounded, nuanced performances in this swiftly paced Broken Nose Theatre production … the final confrontation between Dennis and the bully is a doozy”

Justin HayfordChicago Reader

“An intriguingly complex social-issue set up, none of these four men are uncomplicated … Davis’s staging for Broken Nose Theatre efficiently manages the interlocking scenes”
