Announcing the Cast & Crew of “Kingdom”

After bringing it from seed to script through our Paper Trail development series, Resident Playwright Michael Allen Harris‘s beautiful play KINGDOM has its cast! Running March 2 – 31 at The Den Theatre and directed by Kanome Jones, this is our first World Premiere of the new year, and it’s one you won’t want to miss!

The cast is led by company member Johnard Washington (Alexander) and artistic associates Watson Swift (Henry) and RjW Mays (Phaedra), and features two exciting guest artists in Byron CoolieKingdom Cast (Malik) and Christopher McMorris (Arthur).

When the state of Florida legalizes same sex marriage, Arthur and Henry (his partner of fifty years) come to terms with their differing opinions on the necessity of becoming husbands, even as their son Alexander finds himself wading through some rough new waters of his own. KINGDOM is the story of an entirely-LGBTQ African American family that lives in the near-literal shadow of Orlando’s magical kingdom, as they struggle to create a life together that captures a little bit of that same magic.

The production team includes a host of first-time guest artists like Nikki Marquardt (stage manager), Caswell James (scenic design, technical director), Marci Rodriguez (costume design), Michael Joseph (lighting design), Rylee Freeman (hair and make-up design), Chloe Baldwin (fight director), Elizabeth Gomez (master electrician), alongside artistic associate Devon Green (props design) and past collaborator Grover Hollway (sound design), whose work in Human Terrain bowled us over. Company members Rose Hamill and Echaka Agba are onboard as production manager and assistant director, respectfully.

This timely, lyrical, queer, hilarious family dramedy is a story we’ve been eager to tell for years, and we’re so excited to bring it to Chicago audiences in just two short months!

KINGDOM begins performances March 2 at The Den Theatre. As with all Broken Nose shows, tickets will be Pay-What-You-Can, keeping theater accessible to all audiences. Keep an eye out on how to reserve tickets, coming soon!
